Monica Fergus’s Plankton sculptures explore the extraordinary forms and colours found in microscopic marine life. Inspired by microscope photographs of organisms that can be only a few millimetres in size, Monica transforms these tiny and often unseen forms into distinctive ceramic wall sculptures, bringing an invisible world of the sea into focus.
Each piece is shaped by hand and developed through Monica’s carefully considered glazing and firing process. By interpreting the colours and intricate forms found in her marine references, she creates unique ceramic sculptures that celebrate the surprising beauty and diversity of plankton.
